How salary data works in the GCC

Salary transparency in the GCC is lower than in the US or Europe, job postings rarely list numbers, and asking peers what they earn is still a cultural taboo. That leaves professionals in the dark about whether they’re earning fairly. The Tenure Pay Index solves that by aggregating verified salary data across sectors, cities, and seniority levels so you can benchmark with confidence.

This free calculator shows median base salary for any sector, city, and seniority level in the GCC. For the full picture, including bonus structures, housing allowances, firm-tier breakdowns, and total cash compensation, upgrade to Tenure Pro and explore the full Pay Index.

Data sources and freshness

We pull data from primary sources: published Gulf compensation surveys and written offer letters shared by Tenure Pro members (anonymised before mapping). Every role row shows the number of verified sources behind it, refreshed every month. Any role with fewer than five fresh sources is queued for the next re-verification cycle.

Base vs. total compensation

This calculator shows base salary only, the fixed monthly or annual component of pay. In the GCC, total compensation often includes housing allowance (typically 20-50% of base), transport, utilities, and bonuses that can be substantial in finance and sales roles. The full breakdown is available in Tenure Pro.

Sector and seniority mapping

Salary bands are organized by professional sector (Legal & Compliance, Banking, Strategy & Consulting, Technology, and more) and four seniority tiers (Junior/Associate, Mid/Senior, Manager/Director, VP/Executive). These tiers align with actual GCC market conventions, not US tech titles. A “Manager” in the Tenure Index maps to Senior Manager in investment banking, or Team Lead in tech.

No signup, always free for medians

If you want to see the full range (min/max) and understand bonus structures, housing breaks, and firm-tier comparisons, that requires Tenure Pro. Frequently asked questions

How accurate is this salary calculator?

The calculator draws from the Tenure Pay Index, built from primary sources: offer letters from Tenure Pro members and established Gulf compensation surveys. Every role row shows the number of verified sources behind it so you can judge the credibility yourself.

Where does the salary data come from?

Two buckets: extracts from established Gulf compensation surveys and written offer letters shared by Tenure Pro members (anonymised before mapping). We don't crowdsource. All entries are standardised to base salary figures.

Are these salaries net or gross?

All figures are gross annual salary. GCC countries have zero personal income tax, so gross and net are equivalent for residents.

Do these include bonus and benefits?

The calculator shows base salary only. For detailed bonus structures, housing allowances, and total cash compensation by firm tier, unlock Tenure Pro to access the full Tenure Pay Index.

How often is the data updated?

The Tenure Pay Index is refreshed monthly. Each band shows its underlying source count and the latest observation date so you can assess freshness.

Is this calculator free?

Yes. The basic median salary for any sector, city, and level is free for all users. The full salary range (min/max) and bonus/benefits data requires Tenure Pro ($9.99/month).
