How salary data works in the GCC

Salary transparency in the GCC is lower than in the US or Europe — job postings rarely list numbers, and asking peers what they earn is still a cultural taboo. That leaves professionals in the dark about whether they’re earning fairly. The Tenure Pay Index solves that by aggregating verified salary data across sectors, cities, and seniority levels so you can benchmark with confidence.

This free calculator shows median base salary for any sector, city, and seniority level in the GCC. For the full picture — including bonus structures, housing allowances, firm-tier breakdowns, and total cash compensation — upgrade to Tenure Pro and explore the full Pay Index.

Data sources and freshness

We pull data from multiple channels: public job postings with disclosed ranges, recruitment agency submissions, professional disclosures from verified candidates, and industry benchmarks. Each salary band is timestamped and rated by confidence (High, Medium, Low) based on the number of sources and data recency. High-confidence entries have three or more recent sources; Low-confidence entries may come from a single source or be older than 12 months.

Base vs. total compensation

This calculator shows base salary only — the fixed monthly or annual component of pay. In the GCC, total compensation often includes housing allowance (typically 20-50% of base), transport, utilities, and bonuses that can be substantial in finance and sales roles. The full breakdown is available in Tenure Pro.

Sector and seniority mapping

Salary bands are organized by 18 professional sectors (Legal, Investment Banking, Tech & Engineering, etc.) and four seniority tiers (Junior/Associate, Mid/Senior, Manager/Director, VP/Executive). These tiers align with actual GCC market conventions — not US tech titles. A “Manager” in the Tenure Index maps to Senior Manager in investment banking, or Team Lead in tech.
