Frequently asked

Are the lunar holiday dates confirmed?

Lunar holidays (Eid Al Fitr, Eid Al Adha, Islamic New Year, Mawlid, Isra and Mi'raj) are announced by each country's moon-sighting committee one to three days before the holiday. Dates on this page show the scheduled date until confirmed. A dark-green Confirmed badge marks an officially gazetted date.

Do holidays differ between countries?

Yes. While Islamic holidays are observed across the GCC, the exact dates can shift by one day between countries depending on each ministry's moon-sighting confirmation. National days and sector-specific observances also vary by country.

How does the working week affect long weekends?

The UAE works Monday to Friday (since January 2022); Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman work Sunday to Thursday. A holiday on Thursday is a long weekend in the UAE but not in the others, and vice versa for Sundays. The Long Weekend Planner below accounts for each country's working week.

Which sectors pause during which holidays?

Financial services, government, and most professional services pause during Eid and National Day. Oil, gas, and logistics often run through with reduced staffing. Hospitality and retail peak. Salary bands for each of these sectors are in the Tenure Pay Index.
