Senior Accountant – Job Description

Location: UAE \| Job Type: Full\-Time

We are seeking a highly experienced and detail\-oriented Senior Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of UAE experience within a Construction/Contracting Company, with strong knowledge of project accounting, financial reporting, VAT, and day\-to\-day accounting operations. Experience working within a Group of Companies will be highly preferred.

Key ResponsibilitiesAccounting \& Financial Management

• Manage and oversee day\-to\-day accounting activities and ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions.
• Prepare monthly financial reports, management accounts, and supporting schedules.
• Perform bank, supplier, customer, and intercompany reconciliations.
• Monitor accounts receivable and payable and ensure timely follow\-up and reconciliation.
• Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and provisions.
• Support month\-end and year\-end closing activities.
• Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and ensure proper accounting controls.

Construction \& Project Accounting

• Maintain project\-wise accounts, cost records, and expense allocations.
• Monitor project costs against approved budgets and coordinate with Project Managers and Quantity Surveyors.
• Track project\-related expenses, material costs, subcontractor payments, and labour costs.
• Assist in monitoring project profitability and cost variances.
• Support the preparation and review of project\-related invoices and payment applications.
• Ensure proper allocation of costs across projects, departments, and business units.

Group Company Accounting

• Handle intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and balances between Group companies.
• Assist with the preparation of consolidated financial information and reports.
• Ensure accurate allocation and recording of shared costs and expenses between companies.
• Coordinate with finance teams across different Group entities where required.

Compliance \& Reporting

• Ensure compliance with UAE accounting standards, Company policies, and financial procedures.
• Assist with VAT calculations, VAT returns, and supporting documentation in coordination with the Finance Manager.
• Support internal and external audit requirements.
• Maintain proper accounting records and supporting documentation.
• Assist in preparing information and reports required by Management, auditors, and other stakeholders.

Team \& Process Support

• Support and guide junior accounting staff where required.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls.
• Coordinate with HR, Procurement, Operations, and Project Teams on financial matters.
• Perform other accounting and finance\-related duties as assigned by Management.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of accounting experience in the UAE, specifically within a Construction or Contracting Company.
• Experience working in a Group of Companies is highly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of project accounting and cost allocation.
• Experience with accounts payable, receivable, general ledger, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Good knowledge of UAE VAT requirements.
• Experience with accounting/ERP systems is preferred.
• Advanced proficiency in MS Excel.
• Strong analytical, numerical, and problem\-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet reporting deadlines.
• High level of accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail.
• Good communication and coordination skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• CA / ACCA / CMA / CPA or other relevant professional qualification is an advantage.
• Experience in construction project costing and subcontractor accounting is preferred.
• Previous experience handling accounting for multiple entities within a Group structure is highly desirable.
